Johnson School Resource Officer wins award Vern Simmons, a St. Paul police officer and the school resource officer at Johnson High School was named Outstanding Juvenile Officer of 2010 for Minnesota by the Minnesota Juvenile Officers Association.
"Over the years, he has built a rapport with the students that far exceeds what an SRO (school resource officer) is expected to accomplish," St. Paul police Sgt. Rob Stanway wrote to the Association. Click here to read news coverage in the Pioneer Press.

Eighth grader wins award from the Science Museum of Minnesota Rainey Rock,an eighth grader at Battle Creek Jr. High, won a Minnesota Science Museum's Good Job Award on Saturday, Jan. 29, 201. The project, called Ketchup vs. Detergents: The Fight Begins, looked at which detergent removes ketchup stains better than any of the others. Click here to see the award announcement.
Mississippi Creative Arts Magnet supports student receiving chemotherapy More than 530 students are making origami cranes for a fellow 5th grade student receiving chemotherapy for recurring leukemia. Students have shown an outpouring of care and empathy as they teach one another how to make the cranes. The 1000 cranes will be delivered to the student's hospital room in time for Valentine's Day.
