This man and Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) could almost be considered synonyms. He’s been part of our community for generations. He’s the son of a former SPPS teacher. He’s a graduate of Prosperity Heights Elementary and Johnson Senior High School. For 38 years, he taught physical education. The majority of those years were at his former elementary school. At Harding Senior High School he coaches baseball and hockey. Today, he’s a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) and working to better our physical education programs. And in 38 years his list of accomplishments, connections and stories about students, families and community members he’s taught number as many as the people who have passed through Saint Paul Public Schools. This year Wally Grant will retire. While he may be saying good-bye to a career in teaching, he doesn’t plan on leaving the community he helped build. Look for him on the bleachers of a hockey arena or a baseball diamond giving a positive message that Coach Wally Grant gave to generations of students … Click here to continue Getting to Know … Wally Grant.
